I have been working as a secondary school teacher for over 25 years. I started my career in Cape Town as a school counsellor and since moving to the UK in 2000, gradually shifted to working with those with Special Educational Needs and being a classroom teacher. Over time I became increasingly aware that a growing number of those around me, adults and children alike, were starting to show signs of not having the skills or resources to cope with our demanding world. Anxiety, stress and depression, in particular, were becoming increasingly prevalent.
My background in teaching has allowed me to specialise in adolescents and children and I have found teenagers particularly responsive to this particular school of psychotherapy as it relies on imagination and very clear goal setting within a well-structured protocol. The Human Givens approach is also a very effective method of family counselling and family mediation. I have a particular interest in delivering mental health and wellbeing training within the school context to pupils, teachers and parents.
The methods I employ with young people are equally effective with all ages and I have used them successfully with clients suffering with depression, anxiety, phobias (including school phobia), addictions, exam stress or performance anxiety and those in need of general coaching skills.
I grew up in Wiltshire and moved to London to train as an actor. I worked as an actor and singer in a wide range of companies and venues for many years. I am an experienced business role-player, facilitator and trainer. As a Human Givens psychotherapist, I continue to work in business and education taking the Human Givens approach to mental health, wellbeing and emotional intelligence into the workplace. I also co-run Yellow Tree Wellbeing, a corporate wellbeing solutions company.
I have a real enthusiasm for the Human Givens approach to counselling and first and foremost my aim is to offer effective and practical help in order to enable you to feel better and move on with your life as quickly as possible.
I have a particular interest in working with clients wanting to recover from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, whether as a result of critical incident, military service or childhood trauma.
I also enjoy working with clients looking for greater and lasting self-confidence and self-esteem.
